Setting goals.  It's one of those sayings that sounds a little - embarrassing.  Or at least a bit try-hard.

Outside of work, I've rarely been good at it.  I don't think much about it.

I did though on a few occasions.  Set a goal - a big audacious one.  One that scared me - that I committed to - but that I knew I had no chance of pulling it off unless I got out of bed every week - and worked at it, towards it - consistently.  I had to keep the end-goal in my sights every week - and slog towards it.

My god it was effective!  And enjoyable.  And rewarding.  I can't think of any down side.

I should do it more.

I think the hard part isn't sticking to the goal or the work.  It's figuring out what you want to shoot for - which says a lot about just how much we all just drift.

I'm sure there's a lot to be said for drifting, but - everything in moderation.  I need to adjust the balance.   More goals, less drift.
